Wicketkeeper-batter Georgie Redmayne, who returned to work as a doctor this year, has been named captain of the Brisbane Heat as the side tries to recover from a winless Women's Big Bash League season, ABC News reports, citing AAP.
She replaces all-rounder Jess Jonassen, captain for the past six seasons. The Heat finished bottom in 2025, but many of their players went on to win the one-day WNCL title with Queensland Fire, with Redmayne leading the side and scoring a century in the final.
Redmayne said the team needed only small changes to succeed in the 20-over format and hoped to return to opening the batting with Grace Harris. She worked shifts at Greenslopes Private Hospital this year and said medicine kept her grounded. The Heat open their campaign at home to the Sydney Sixers on Friday.
