Update: Serbia’s Student List wins outright majority in snap election

·

Serbia's opposition Student List has won an outright majority in the snap parliamentary election, according to near-complete results published on Monday by the Republic Electoral Commission, Balkan Insight reports.

With 8,135 of 8,392 polling stations counted, the list had 52.65% of the vote against 39.2% for United Serbia, the list led by President Aleksandar Vučić's Serbian Progressive Party. Turnout was 68.8%. Independent monitors CeSID and Ipsos project 140 seats for the Student List and 103 for United Serbia, enough for the students to govern without coalition partners. The remaining seats are expected to go to national minority parties.

The list grew out of nearly two years of protests after the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy in November 2024, which killed 16 people. It has not yet named a candidate for prime minister.
