US President Donald Trump has told a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, that he expects the trade dispute with Canada to be resolved soon, Global News reports.
Speaking on Sunday, Mr Trump repeated his claim that Canada had taken advantage of the US for years and said Canada was now ready to concede almost anything. The Prime Minister's Office did not immediately respond.
Relations have been strained since Mark Carney's government pulled out of formal trade talks in August over what it called unreasonable last-minute US demands. Washington then put tariffs on billions of dollars of Canadian goods and Canada retaliated. On Friday Mr Trump said he would lift some 50% tariffs at the end of the month, at the request of Maine senator Susan Collins, while adding duties on dozens of other products, including Canadian waste. The dispute has become an issue in close midterm races.
