Energize Lab, the company behind the Eiliko AI companion robot charm, says it will hire an independent security firm to review its systems after The Verge reported that owners' conversations could be read by outsiders, The Verge reports.
In an unsigned statement, the firm apologised for not replying for over a month, said it had confirmed the core problems, closed external access to its back-end systems, disabled a feature that let the robot's replies be changed remotely and stopped storing conversation records. It said it would delete stored data and keep its memory and custom avatar features offline until the review is complete.
The Verge said that, working with security researcher Sammy Azdoufal, it found customers' photos and audio still exposed at unprotected web addresses after the statement, and that remote access to the robots appeared to remain possible.
