Two members of Syria's Internal Security Forces were killed and five injured during a raid on an ISIS-linked cell in the town of Rankous, west of Damascus, Syrian authorities said on Thursday, according to The National.
The operation was carried out with the General Intelligence Service, and fighting broke out during the raid. Attacks by ISIS on Syrian government forces have risen sharply this year, with the conflict monitor ACLED recording 52 in the first half of 2026 compared with 16 in the whole of last year.
The rise followed a government campaign against the group launched after a member of the Syrian security forces shot dead two US soldiers and an interpreter during a joint patrol in Palmyra last December. President Ahmad Al Shara's government has been working with the US-led coalition against ISIS.
