Foreign ministers from eight European and Middle Eastern countries meeting in Istanbul have urged the United States and Israel not to resume attacks on Iran, The Guardian reports.
Turkey's Hakan Fidan, who co-hosted the summit with Germany, said military action was no solution and that a new attack would widen the conflict. France, the UK, Italy, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were also represented. The ministers called for an end to Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and for the Strait of Hormuz, blockaded by Iranian vessels and drones, to be reopened.
France's Jean-Noël Barrot warned another war would push oil prices, already at their highest since May, even higher. Germany's Johann Wadephul accused the Houthis and Iran of holding world trade to ransom. The agenda also covered the Palestinian issue, Yemen and the war in Ukraine.
