The UK government is weighing restrictions on smart glasses because of concerns that the camera-equipped devices are being used to film women without their knowledge, The Guardian reports. Safeguarding minister Satvir Kaur told the House of Commons on Wednesday that ministers were looking at limiting their use in certain places and restricting who can buy them.
Kaur said anyone filming with the glasses could already be breaking the law in places such as courts, and that NHS England and the Department for Education were reviewing wearable technology in health and school settings. She also noted the devices can help people with visual impairments. The debate was led by Liberal Democrat MP Anna Sabine, who said women had discovered videos of themselves spreading online after nights out, and urged MPs not to wait until harm was widespread before regulating.
