Unverified photos shared on social media appear to show a Chinese H-6K strategic bomber carrying two electronic warfare pods used for jamming, the South China Morning Post reports.
The pods seem similar to the RKZ930 type carried by the J-16D, the People's Liberation Army Air Force's most advanced electronic warfare aircraft. It is not known where or when the images were taken, or whether the pods were in service or being tested.
Military analysts told the paper that a jamming capability could let the bomber disrupt enemy radar on long-range missions and depend less on escort aircraft, though they stressed nothing had been confirmed. The H-6 series, derived from the Soviet Tu-16, is China's only strategic bomber in service. The H-6K first flew in 2007 and has a range of about 8,000km.
