An Iranian lawmaker on parliament's National Security Committee has told Euronews that Tehran would launch missiles towards Europe if American forces mounted an attack on Iran from bases in countries such as Italy and Germany. Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani said Iran had not done so in the two previous wars but would not let European help for the US go unanswered this time.
A second committee member said Iran had prepared a new approach for any renewed conflict. On the anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the US embassy in Tehran, the Revolutionary Guards pledged a response without geographical limits to any threat, and state media warned that any fresh conflict could extend deep into Europe. Government supporters also hung a banner outside the German embassy in Tehran saying Europe would pay for backing Israel.
