LeBron James made a winning debut for the Philadelphia 76ers, who beat the New York Knicks 106-100 at Madison Square Garden on the night the Knicks raised their championship banner, NPR reports. Knicks fans chanted "We don't want you!" at James, who had said New York would have been his first choice in free agency had the club not won its first NBA title since 1973.
James, 41, who is starting a record 24th season, scored 14 points with nine rebounds. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points, new signing Jaylen Brown added 19 and Joel Embiid had 13 points and 11 rebounds. James said it was still a great night for New York fans. The Sixers, who have not won a title since 1983, play their home opener against Cleveland on Thursday.
