A Kremlin official told a German government counterpart that Russia's attempted sabotage at Leipzig airport would not be its last target, according to a Wall Street Journal report cited by Meduza. The official was not named. In August an explosive-laden drone was found near a Ukrainian An-124 cargo plane at the airport, and Germany formally accused Russia of the plot on 1 September. Moscow denies involvement.
European officials, citing US intelligence, told the newspaper that Vladimir Putin had personally ordered a stepped-up campaign of sabotage against Nato countries after neither the war nor talks with Washington pushed Ukraine to accept his terms. The report links the push to a rise in incidents since then, including arson attacks on drone factories in Estonia and Poland and sabotage at Starlink ground stations reported by Poland, Lithuania and Bulgaria.
