Consumer authorities in Selangor, Malaysia, are investigating seven petrol stations after drivers complained that RON95 fuel had damaged their engines, CNA reports.
Motorists described engines knocking, juddering, losing power or failing to start, and some reported burnt valves. Inspectors took 27 samples from stations in Klang, Sungai Buloh, Puchong and Shah Alam after 10 formal complaints, and sent them to the national chemistry department. The state director of the domestic trade ministry, Muhamad Hanif Asa'ari, said water contamination could not be confirmed until results were in, though some workshops had blamed it.
The stations hold valid licences but have been told to hand over records, and possible offences under the Trade Descriptions Act are being examined. Similar complaints have arisen in northern states, including 33 linked to about 30 stations in Penang.
