Facebook pages can now include only two hyperlinks a month in posts for free, with more available through paid Meta plans, NPR's Planet Money reports.
According to the report, a $49.99-a-month Meta One Advanced plan allows eight links in posts or reels, while the $499-a-month Max plan removes the limit. The change has drawn criticism online, including from the owner of a small game design company.
NPR said the move reflects a wider trend of social media platforms discouraging users from leaving, because time spent on the platform is what they sell to advertisers. Instagram has long restricted links in posts, and research by Nieman Lab has found that posting links reduces the reach of news publishers on X.
