The NFL says next Sunday's regular-season game between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Stade de France will go ahead as planned, despite the violent protests that have spread across France, The Japan Times reports.
In a statement, the league said preparations were on schedule, that it was working closely with local authorities on security and that there had been no disruption at its sites. The Saints, who were due to fly to Paris straight after Sunday's game against the New York Giants, said they backed the decision and had security staff already in France. The Steelers plan to arrive on Friday.
France has never before hosted an NFL regular-season game; this one is on 25 October. The French interior ministry said almost 2,400 people were arrested on Saturday as cost-of-living protests turned violent.
