Nigeria's military says troops have killed four senior commanders of Islamic State West Africa Province, including two foreign fighters, during an offensive in the Kukawa area of Borno State, Premium Times reports.
A spokesperson for the joint task force Operation Hadin Kai said the operation, which began on 31 October and used both air strikes and ground forces, targeted the group's leadership. Among those named as killed were a member of its Shura Council and a close associate of a wanted regional commander. Weapons and communications equipment were seized.
The army said the result showed it was keeping up pressure on militants in the north-east. It follows a recent clash in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, where troops say they repelled an attack on a training school, killing about 55 militants; one soldier died. The claims have not been independently verified.
