Stoppen SK, a sports club in Lier, west of Oslo, says about 150 families owe it a combined 250,000 Norwegian kroner in unpaid training fees, NRK reports.
The club's general manager, Kristian Bye-Andersen, estimated that up to 15 per cent of members cannot afford the activity charge and said many parents feel embarrassed about it. The club wants every child to keep playing and has raised money from private sponsors, the local council and a grocery-chain scheme run with the national sports federation, which gave it 105,000 kroner.
Neighbouring Bærum has run a leisure grant since 2018 that clubs can claim on families' behalf, with a 2027 budget of 8.6 million kroner. The president of the Norwegian sports confederation, Zaineb Al-Samarai, urged struggling parents to contact their club or local welfare office for help.
