Norwegian media groups go to court to stop Meta using their content

·

Ten of Norway's main media organisations, including the public broadcaster NRK, Schibsted, Amedia and the news agency NTB, have asked the Oslo district court to block new Meta user terms, The Local Norway reports, citing AFP.

The groups say the terms, due to take effect on 20 November, would allow the owner of Facebook and Instagram to gather their articles, photos and videos, including paywalled material, and use them to build artificial intelligence products. They are seeking a temporary injunction while the wider case is heard.

The head of the Norwegian Media Businesses' Association, Lene Eltvik Vindfeld, said Meta was using publishers' investment to create AI services that compete with them. The plaintiffs say professional account holders would have no way to object other than deleting their accounts. Meta told AFP it had delayed the change to explain it better to partners.
