Armed men attacked a Kuki village in Manipur's Kamjong district near the India-Myanmar border on Saturday afternoon, killing one man and injuring four others, The Hindu reports. Community members named the dead man as Seikhohao Haokip, 35. Those hurt in Chassad, including two village chiefs, were rescued by the Assam Rifles and are being treated at the paramilitary force's hospital.
Villagers said the five had gone to repair power lines and accused Naga militants of an ambush. Neither the state government nor police had commented. More than 50 people have died in Kuki-Naga clashes since February, with at least nine killed across three districts within a day of renewed fighting on 9 October. Manipur has been unsettled since May 2023, when conflict between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities began, leaving more than 260 dead.
