A technical fault with promotional prices has disrupted several New World supermarkets across New Zealand's North Island, with at least two stores, in Takapuna in Auckland and on Willis Street in central Wellington, temporarily closed, RNZ reports.
Other branches shut their self-checkouts while staff checked prices by hand, and a shopper at New World Stonefields in Auckland described long queues. A notice at the Mt Roskill store said a system update had not reached the tills, so expired specials could still be charged and new offers might not show correctly.
Owner Foodstuffs said the problem was found on Monday morning and had been fixed at its Pak'nSave and Four Square stores, with work continuing at New World. It apologised and said customers who were overcharged would get a full refund, with Club+ members who scanned their cards refunded automatically.
