Most problem gamblers who took part in a survey by Norwegian broadcaster NRK say gambling companies have contacted them with offers to play, even though foreign online casinos are banned from targeting customers in Norway. Only the state-owned Norsk Tipping may offer casino games there.
NRK, working with the charities Spillavhengighet Norge and Blue Cross, sent questions to more than 400 people described as problem gamblers. Of the 124 who replied, 113 said they had been approached by gambling firms, nine in ten by text message and almost half by phone. A quarter said they had been contacted more than 50 times in the past year. Many said the messages, often offering free spins or bonus money, became more frequent when they tried to stop. NRK has previously reported that hundreds of Curaçao-licensed casinos offer Norwegian-language sites.
