Strong winds and heavy rain closed bridges and disrupted ferries and flights in Troms, northern Norway, on Monday, NRK reports. The forecaster Yr raised its rain warning for Troms and northern Nordland to orange, with 50 to 80mm expected within 24 hours, and the water authority NVE issued warnings for landslides and flooding.
The Sandnessund bridge in Tromsø and the Tjeldsund bridge were shut after gusts of up to 34 and 36 metres per second, above the usual closure limit, causing bus delays. A school on Kvaløya told parents to keep children at home while the Tromsø bridge remained closed. Several ferry routes were cancelled and four flights from Harstad/Narvik airport at Evenes were called off. The county's emergency chief said the situation was developing as expected, and Tromsø officials urged residents to secure loose objects.
