Former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg is spending $80m to help Democratic candidates in next month's midterm elections, The Guardian reports, citing The New York Times. The money, given in September and October, focuses on Democrats trying to win the House of Representatives, with his adviser Howard Wolfson saying the size of any majority mattered.
On the same day, Donald Trump said he planned to spend $400m supporting Republican candidates, of which $300m has already been handed out. Elon Musk has spent $366m on conservative groups and campaigns so far. Bloomberg's donations include $24m to Everytown for Gun Safety and $16m to the House Majority Pac. Democrats believe they are favourites to win the House and hope to gain the four seats they need to take the Senate.
