Shenzhen is rushing through improvements for foreign visitors and urban safety before it hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' meeting on 18 and 19 November, Singapore broadcaster CNA reports. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to host leaders from 21 economies, and Donald Trump has indicated he plans to attend.
Authorities say more than 40,000 faulty foreign-language signs have been fixed, and over 5,000 taxis now carry AI translation devices. Tencent is waiving card fees on WeChat Pay for new international users for 90 days. A new 24-hour Huanggang border crossing with Hong Kong opened on 12 October. The city has also tightened e-scooter parking and expanded radar checks beneath roads after a section of Binhai Avenue collapsed in August. Experts told CNA the real test is whether the changes last after the summit.
