Australian Rinky Hijikata has beaten Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Paris Masters, ending the Serbian's hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals, ABC News reports. Hijikata lost the first set but came back to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, hitting 37 winners. Djokovic needed to reach the semi-finals in Paris to secure a place in Turin.
It was a less happy night for Australia's top-ranked man, Alex de Minaur, who lost 7-6, 6-3 to Argentina's world number 31 Tomás Martín Etcheverry. The defeat leaves de Minaur ninth in the race to Turin, and because Paris is the last qualifying event he can only make the finals if one of the top eight withdraws. Hijikata and Etcheverry will now meet in the third round.
