Russian strikes overnight killed seven people in Ukraine, authorities said on Thursday, shortly after US envoy Steve Witkoff met President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg for talks on ending the war, Euronews reports.

Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko said 15 people were injured in the capital, eight of them taken to hospital, and that metro infrastructure at the Pivdenny Bridge was damaged, limiting traffic across the city. Ukraine's air force said it shot down 181 Russian drones. In Russia, Moscow's mayor Sergei Sobyanin said two people were injured as about 630 Ukrainian drones headed for the Moscow region, most of them intercepted.

President Trump said the sides were the closest they had been to a deal, though no breakthrough was announced. The Kremlin said it was willing in principle to resume three-way talks, possibly in mid-November.
