Ryanair is considering temporary pay freezes, lower crew ratios on flights and wider use of artificial intelligence to offset an expected €2bn rise in its fuel bill, The Guardian reports.
Chief executive Michael O'Leary said jet fuel prices were likely to stay high well into 2027 unless the Middle East conflict is resolved quickly, and that European short-haul fares could rise by as much as 20%. He said higher fares were unlikely to cover the full increase in costs.
The airline said it had hedged 80% of its fuel needs until the end of March at $67 a barrel, but only a quarter of the following year's needs, at $95. It reported a post-tax profit of €1.61bn for the quarter to September, down 6% on a year earlier, while passenger numbers rose 5% to 64.5 million.
