At least 31 people were killed and 48 are listed as missing after Russian guided bombs hit a school building used to hand out humanitarian aid in Komyshuvakha, in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, and a nearby shelter, The Guardian reports, citing regional officials. Earlier reports had put the toll at 24. Four police officers and two rescue workers were among the dead, and rescuers were hampered by further drone attacks on the area.
The strike formed part of a wider overnight barrage that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said involved 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles across nine regions, hitting power plants and hospitals. Zelenskyy said Russia believed the US was distracted by its midterm elections and urged allies to help Ukraine protect its skies.
