Syria's intelligence service says it has thwarted a plan to attack the Homs oil refinery and arrested members of a cell linked to Lebanon's Hezbollah, Al Jazeera reports. The General Intelligence Service said on X that explosive devices prepared for the attack were seized, and identified two detainees only by their initials, without saying when or where the operation took place.
Hezbollah denied the accusation, saying it has no presence in Syria and is not involved in anything that threatens the country's stability. The group fought for Bashar al-Assad during the civil war, but relations with Damascus have soured since his overthrow in 2024, and Syrian authorities have accused it of several plots. Homs is one of Syria's two refineries. Separately, officials said on Sunday they had arrested two suspected Islamic State members in Deir ez-Zor.
