Tonga beat Lebanon 36-0 in Sydney on Friday night for their second win of the Rugby League World Cup, keeping alive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals, RNZ reports.

Cheered on by more than 10,000 fans, Tonga led 14-0 at half-time after three tries and finished with seven in total. Lebanon defended strongly early on and came close to scoring in the first half, but Tonga's defence, which also stood out in their opening win over England, kept them out all night.

Co-captains Jason Taumalolo and Addin Fonua-Blake led the forwards. Taumalolo praised the support from Tongan and Lebanese fans and said the side had been slow to start but improved as the game went on. Lebanon captain Alex Twal said he was proud of his players. Tonga face Samoa next week.
