Alex Depledge, who has advised the Treasury on entrepreneurship since June 2025, is stepping down days before Chancellor John Healey presents his first Autumn Budget on Wednesday, GB News reports.
In comments to The Times, she said Britain was at risk of missing out on the wave of innovation driven by AI, argued that ministers treated business as a sideshow and gave the country about 18 months to change course. She said she had to win old arguments again after Mr Healey and Johnny Reynolds arrived at No 11, and had barely any time with the new Chancellor.
Separately, former Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane, who once advised Andy Burnham in Greater Manchester, warned that failing to cut spending and taxes risked a Liz Truss-style market crisis, and predicted a Budget that puts off hard decisions.
