The palm oil company TSH Resources has told the Singapore Exchange that 274 hotspots found inside its estate boundaries this year were in community enclaves outside its operational areas, CNA reports.
Responding to questions from the exchange about whether it had contributed to the haze affecting Southeast Asia, the company said no fires were detected in its planted areas between January and 21 October and that its teams put out the fires and reported them to police. It also disclosed an August fire on land held by its Indonesian subsidiary, which it said started in a community area.
The exchange has questioned seven listed agricultural companies, including Wilmar and Golden Agri-Resources. Singapore has had spells of unhealthy air since early September, and the senior minister, K Shanmugam, has warned that the government will use every lever available against companies found responsible.
