Two teenage girls were hurt when they fell several metres from a Ferris wheel at the AgFest West Coast show in Greymouth on Saturday afternoon, RNZ reports.
The girls struck another girl on the ground as they fell. AgFest West Coast managing director Andy Thompson said it was not yet clear how far or why they fell, though he believed it was more than two or three metres. He understood their injuries were minor, and the mother of the girl who was hit said her daughter was okay.
The operator, Sturgeon Amusements, shut the ride and contacted the safety regulator, and WorkSafe has been notified. Police photographed and secured the scene. The incident happened about 30 minutes before the show closed after a day that drew more than 10,000 visitors.
