UEFA, European football's governing body, has given FIFA until 2 November to answer 42 questions about a $4.2bn World Cup investment plan that president Gianni Infantino launched and then dropped in July after a backlash led by Europe, ABC News reports.
The questions, set out in a letter signed by UEFA general secretary Theodore Theodoridis on behalf of European members of the FIFA Council, cover Infantino's pay, payments to the singer Marc Anthony, business and political links involving Donald Trump's family, and the independence of FIFA's judicial, electoral and ethics bodies. The letter said Infantino's apology had not explained how the decisions were taken.
The deadline falls 16 days before nominations close for FIFA's presidential election next March. UEFA has also asked US courts to authorise subpoenas over the plan, while FIFA's lawyers accuse UEFA of harassing Infantino.
