Ugandan police have opened a murder investigation after the headless body of a Rwandan dissident was found in Mpigi District, AllAfrica reports.
Robert Kabera, 50, a former sergeant major in the Rwanda Defence Forces who had criticised President Paul Kagame, was found by residents in Luwala village on the morning of 17 October. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said his head had not been recovered and that he was identified by relatives, who had become worried when he stopped getting in touch.
Investigators believe he was killed overnight or early that morning. Kabera reportedly fled to Uganda around 2020, saying his life was in danger. Police have not given a motive or said whether his political views were linked to his death. The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary.
