Update: Greens senator Jordon Steele-John confirms he will miss parliament next week

·

Jordon Steele-John, the Greens senator for Western Australia, says he will stay away from parliament next week, ending days of uncertainty over his status while misconduct allegations against him are investigated, The Guardian Australia reports. He denies all the allegations.

In a social media statement on Friday night, the 32-year-old said he had explored joining Senate estimates remotely but was told that would be unacceptable, and would instead focus on the independent investigation commissioned by the WA Greens. The complaints have also been referred to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission.

On Saturday he deleted a post in which he had published the confidential letter sent to Greens leader David Shoebridge urging an investigation, and apologised for any extra distress it caused. The letter, sent on 13 October, raised allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards women between 2017 and 2025.
