Jordanian security forces have arrested three armed suspects over Friday's attack on a church that killed nine people, according to a Reuters report carried by Daily Maverick, citing state media.
The shooting took place during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud in Karak governorate, about 120km south-west of Amman, and wounded around 40 others. The Public Security Directorate said the suspects were found hiding in an abandoned house in Karak, opened fire on officers and were wounded before being detained. Weapons and ammunition were seized and no officers were hurt.
Authorities have blamed extremists but have not named the suspects or any group, and no one has claimed responsibility. King Abdullah had ordered a firm response to the rare attack on Jordan's Christian minority.
