Meta's oversight board has said it is concerned by recurring enforcement failures in the company's election integrity work, as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's campaign accuses Meta of favouring Flávio Bolsonaro before Sunday's presidential run-off, The Guardian reports. The board cited the disabling of Lula's advertising account in September and the brief suspension of the US No Kings movement's account last weekend.
Lula's lawyers have told the electoral court and observers that Lula was unable to boost Instagram posts for almost 24 hours while Bolsonaro could. Meta calls the claims false and blames technical incidents affecting campaigns across the spectrum. Justice Marco Aurélio Bellizze found no evidence of deliberate action but twice ordered Meta to show the problems were fixed. On Tuesday Meta again denied favouritism and said it had added human review.
