Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Uruguay at the start of a twelve-day tour of Latin America that will also take him to Argentina and Peru, Al Jazeera reported. The 71-year-old pontiff is making the journey weeks after surgery to remove a tumour from a lung, according to earlier Vatican statements. Uruguay is the first stop on a return to the continent where he spent two decades as a missionary priest. Crowds and official welcomes were expected in Montevideo before pastoral events and meetings with civic leaders. The tour tests his stamina after convalescence and offers a platform on poverty, democracy and church renewal across the region.
