Staff at a JD Wetherspoon pub in Gosport, Hampshire, refused entry on Sunday afternoon to a group of six people wearing Remembrance poppies, GB News reports.
According to the broadcaster, a video shared on social media shows a door supervisor and a staff member, thought to be the manager, telling the group outside The Star that a blanket ban applied to anything that might be seen as political. The group were Reform UK members who had been out campaigning, Portsmouth councillor George Madgwick told GB News, though they were not displaying party material.
The same day, about 400 anti-migrant protesters and a counter-protest gathered in the area after two small boats arrived on the nearby shore. Hampshire Police said both passed off without arrests. Wetherspoon backs the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and appears to run a general no-flags policy in its pubs.
