New Zealand's women's cricket team lost the opening Twenty20 international of the Rose Bowl series to Australia by two wickets at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, ABC News reports. Batting first, the White Ferns made 162 for two, and Australia reached their target with seven balls remaining.
The hosts looked comfortable at 86 for one inside nine overs before Beth Mooney was run out after a mix-up with Ellyse Perry, who went on to make a fast half-century. Australia then lost seven wickets for 62 runs, with Jess Kerr taking four, before Kim Garth hit the winning boundary. The result gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the remaining games at the same ground on Tuesday and Thursday. New Zealand have now lost six of their last nine matches.
