A Wizz Air flight from London to the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, was diverted to Budapest on Monday after a bomb threat, GB News reports.
The Airbus A321neo turned back over Bosnia and Herzegovina and requested an emergency landing at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in the Hungarian capital. Hungary's defence minister, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, said a Hungarian Gripen fighter was scrambled under a Nato alert order to escort the airliner, which landed safely shortly after midday local time. The jet then returned to its base at Kecskemét.
Police, firefighters and counter-terrorism officers met the aircraft, and Wizz Air said the plane and its passengers were being checked. One of the airport's runways was briefly closed, with other flights moved to the second runway. No details of the threat or of any arrests have been given.
