India's governing BJP has accused Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut of producing an AI-generated audio clip that refers to a 500 crore rupee payment to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, The Hindu reports. BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban alleged Raut acted on behalf of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to stir up a split between the BJP, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Jarange.
Ban called for a case to be registered against Raut if warranted and for an inquiry into any funding. The allegations had not been tested at the time of reporting.
Jarange released the clip in Jalna on Thursday, saying it showed a plot to silence him. In it, a woman is allegedly heard saying the money reached him through Shinde's son, MP Shrikant Shinde. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a forensic investigation, while Jarange wants a special investigation team.
