Germany is negotiating to buy Ukrainian-made Bars jet-powered drones, a German official told the Kyiv Independent on Saturday.
The talks come as Berlin plans to buy thousands of long-range strike weapons from European arms makers, as Bloomberg reported on Friday, with the aim of using large numbers of cheap missiles to overwhelm enemy air defences. Germany's army currently relies on Taurus cruise missiles, and the US has warned allies of long delays on missile deliveries.
The Bars has a range of about 1,000km and a top speed of around 700km/h. Its maker is kept secret for security reasons. Ukraine uses it to strike Russian refineries and power facilities, and Germany agreed in July to finance joint production of the drone for Ukraine's armed forces.
