Mary Peltola, the Democrat challenging Senator Dan Sullivan, has publicly denied involvement in efforts to put a second candidate named Dan Sullivan on Alaska's ballot, KTOO reports.
Speaking at a crowded rally at the Crystal Saloon in Juneau on Thursday, Ms Peltola said she knew of no candidates in the race other than herself and the incumbent, and was not interested in tricking voters. She also mocked recent New York Times reporting on Democratic efforts to stack the ballot.
The rally followed President Donald Trump's call on Wednesday for her to face criminal charges, and an order from Governor Mike Dunleavy for an investigation into whether the alleged scheme broke state law. Supporters at the event told the station they believed her account and saw the controversy as pre-election noise.
