About nine members of two rescue teams are feared missing after their inflatable boats overturned in the swollen Peddacheruvu lake in Telangana's Khammam district on Wednesday evening, The Hindu reports. Five of them belong to the State Disaster Response Force, and the others to the fire service.
The teams had gone out to bring back five fishermen trapped by floodwaters when strong winds and currents capsized both boats. The fishermen are reported to be safe. The district collector went to the scene to oversee the search, and officials said drones would be used to drop life jackets. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has reviewed the situation, and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has ordered National Disaster Response Force teams to join the operation. The search was continuing into Wednesday night.
