The Nigerian Law School has rejected claims that Muslim women wearing the hijab were harassed or kept out of exam halls during the Bar Final Examinations on 31 October, Premium Times reports. In a statement on Wednesday, the school's director of administration, Aderonke Osho, said it had no policy or practice of religious discrimination and that its exam rules exist to confirm identities and prevent cheating.
The school said a candidate wearing a hijab had been caught during the Bar Part I exams on 29 October allegedly carrying a concealed earpiece and a phone strapped to her leg, and that the matter was under investigation. The Muslim Rights Concern group had criticised alleged restrictions, arguing other candidates should not be punished for one person's alleged misconduct. In 2022 Nigeria's Supreme Court upheld the right of Muslim pupils in Lagos state schools to wear the hijab.
