Montreal police are investigating a suspected arson that heavily damaged a kosher bakery in the Saint-Laurent borough early on 4 November, the second incident at the same Saint-Louis Street premises within about 48 hours. Officers were called around 12:30am to a fire that took roughly 60 firefighters about two hours to bring under control. Investigators say evidence pointed to a deliberate blaze and that a suspected arson attempt on Monday night caused little or no damage. The SPVM arson squad and hate crimes unit are jointly investigating because of the bakery's ties to the Jewish community. No injuries were reported. Global News and other outlets named the business Mimimelon; police have not publicly confirmed an antisemitic motive. Owners previously reported a September incident in which a masked man shouted a threat about Jews burning.
