Around 80 per cent of the 875 people who sat Sweden's first citizenship test on Swedish society passed, The Local Sweden reports, citing the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR).
The pilot test was held in Älvsjö, southern Stockholm, on 15 August, following tighter citizenship rules that took effect in June requiring applicants to show knowledge of Swedish society and the language. Candidates needed 28 out of 40 points to pass, and those who failed will get another attempt.
UHR's programme manager Andreas Sandberg said the result was a good outcome for a first test and that the agency's focus was on fairness and legal soundness. The next society test is planned for spring 2027. A separate Swedish language test had been due in 2027, but UHR has asked the government to delay it until 2029 and is still waiting for a reply.
