An Anchorage police officer shot and killed a man suspected of an armed burglary in South Anchorage on Thursday afternoon, the Anchorage Daily News reports.
Police Chief Sean Case said the case began with a burglary at a business on Lore Road at about 10am. Officers traced the suspect to a supermarket on Huffman Road, and the first officer to reach him was drawn into a struggle in which both men fell to the ground. The suspect fired one shot as a second officer arrived, and that officer fired back, hitting him. He died at the scene on Industry Way. No officers were hurt.
The incident was recorded on dashboard and body cameras. It was the ninth shooting involving Anchorage police this year and the fifth fatal one. The state's Office of Special Prosecutions will review whether it was justified.
