An Italian chef who was dismissed from a Brisbane restaurant has lost an unfair dismissal claim at Australia's Fair Work Commission, after his refusal to make ham and pineapple pizza was listed among the reasons for his sacking. Davide Tamburella told his employer, the now-closed La Costa restaurant, that adding pineapple to a pizza insulted his culture, and admitted he had turned down the request three times in four years. The commission's decision records other concerns raised by management, including foul language, his communication style and frustration during service, and notes he had received a written warning. His claim failed because it was lodged after the legal deadline, 1News reports. The sacking also ended the restaurant's sponsorship of his application for permanent residency.
